Good to know before you invite

How we can help, and what we need from you

Host responsibilities

Hosts cover our volunteer speakers’ costs

Our speakers are volunteers and are not paid for their time. As the host, your office or local partners cover each volunteer speaker’s:

  • TransportationRound trip to and from the venue
  • MealsDuring the event and travel days
  • Token of appreciationA simple thank-you for their time
  • AccommodationsAs applicable, for out-of-town speakers

This is required outside our chapter locations. As a volunteer-led non-profit, we can’t visit every location on our own, and host support keeps programs free for participants and sustainable for our volunteers.

As open-source champions, we work with tech communities across the country, not just our own chapters. Tell us what your audience needs, and we can introduce you to groups and organizers who can help, from AI and cloud to design and data.

How it works

From one event to a local chapter

  1. Start your invite

    Email your invitation to hello@devcon.ph with your city, organization, contact person, and what you can cover for our volunteer speakers. Your first DEVCON event is a free talk from a speaker paying it forward.

  2. Meet our chapters team

    We match you with the nearest chapter, the right program, or another tech community that fits.

  3. Co-plan your first event

    Pick a date, a venue, and an audience. We bring the program and volunteer speakers; you cover their transportation, meals, a token of appreciation, and accommodations (as applicable).

  4. Grow your community

    Keep the momentum as a volunteer community, then apply to become a chapter.

Chapter application requirements

Limited capacity as a volunteer community. We can only support so many chapters well, so we approve new chapters carefully and review every chapter each year. To date, we have not renewed a total of 4 chapters for non-compliance and inactivity. We will always prioritize quality over quantity, of both events and impact.

  • A committed officer teamElected local leaders ready to serve a full term as volunteers.
  • A track record firstStart as a volunteer community and run regular, free programs before applying.
  • Full complianceFollow the Playbook, Code of Conduct, Privacy and Safe Space Consent, and Child Protection Policy.
  • Long-term alignmentBuild for the community as a non-profit public good, beyond seed funds and tech hype.
  • Annual renewalChapters that fall out of compliance or go inactive are not renewed.
