Responsible AI 101 at Lurugan National High School

The DEVCON AI Angat Caravan touched down at Lurugan National High School in Bukidnon, hosted and coordinated by our local DEVCON Bukidnon chapter, and the first stop did not waste a second. Teachers started the day with a Responsible AI and Hour of AI introduction, making sure the learning keeps going long after we leave. Stop 2 · Iligan

Hour of AI for teachers in a GIDA community

The caravan arrived in Iligan for the second half of the journey, hosted and coordinated by our local DEVCON Iligan chapter. Tabunan is a GIDA, a geographically isolated and disadvantaged area, in Iligan’s North 1 District: an inland community with limited, unstable internet and no mobile signal at all, so three Starlink Minis were brought in just to get everyone online.

Teachers from Tabunan, Pedro, and San Antonio sat down with Pam Ros Damarillo for an Hour of AI, learning to teach AI fluency responsibly, even offline and on mobile, with code.org (opens in a new tab)’s tools.

Schools here have a smart TV and one teacher gets a laptop. For some kids, this was their first time holding a tablet at all. Rough roads in, limited connection: this is exactly where Hello, Code! needed to go, and why training teachers keeps the learning going after the caravan rolls out.
